🖤 Norwegian black metal legends MAYHEM return to Bulgaria on 9 October 2026 at Hristo Botev Sports Hall, Sofia, as part of the Death Over Europe Part II European tour. Special guest: Swedish veterans MARDUK.

MAYHEM are among the bands that laid the foundations of the Norwegian black metal scene. The current lineup includes Attila Csihar, Necrobutcher, Hellhammer, Teloch and Ghul.

MARDUK, formed in 1990, are known for their extremely fast, aggressive and direct approach to the genre.

Why this concert matters

MAYHEM are not just another name from the Norwegian black metal wave. Formed in 1984, they are one of the bands that literally laid the foundations of the genre — from the raw „Deathcrush“ through the cult „De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas“ to the later „Grand Declaration of War“, „Ordo Ad Chao“ and „Daemon“. Each of those records left a lasting mark on extreme music.

Their live shows are known for a dark atmosphere, theatrical presence and uncompromising sound. The current lineup — Attila Csihar, Necrobutcher, Hellhammer, Teloch and Ghul — continues to present the band's history to audiences worldwide. The Death Over Europe Part II tour draws from different periods of their discography and shows how the band has evolved across more than four decades.

Joining MAYHEM in Sofia are Swedish veterans MARDUK. Formed in 1990, the band is known for its extremely fast, aggressive and direct approach to black metal. Songs from classics like „Panzer Division Marduk“, „Opus Nocturne“, „Frontschwein“ and „Heaven Shall Burn… When We Are Gathered“ turn their concerts into a continuous sonic assault.

The combination of MAYHEM and MARDUK on one stage makes the night essential for fans of Norwegian and Swedish black metal — one stage, two legends, and an evening that will bring together generations of the heavy scene.

What to expect from the set

MAYHEM will likely build their set around the most recognisable tracks from „De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas“ and their later catalogue — Freezing Moon, Pagan Fears, Funeral Fog, plus material from „Daemon“ and „Ordo Ad Chao“. Death Over Europe Part II is conceived as a survey of the different periods in their discography.

MARDUK, for their part, are known for a direct, high-speed set — Panzer Division Marduk, Wolves, Frontschwein, The Blond Beast. Expect a short, dense and aggressive block with few pauses.

Together the two bands make for a longer night than a standard club show. If you want both sets, plan to be in the hall from the start.

The hall is large with hard acoustics. For a black metal mix you are often better off not standing right by the stacks — the middle or slightly back gives a more balanced sound. For a two-band bill, doors usually open earlier — leave plenty of buffer.

An October evening is cold — the outdoor queue is not heated. If you are travelling from another city, plan the return after the show, not only the arrival — taxis around the hall go fast after the last set.
